Kyrgyzstan
Among the majestic ancient cities in the west of Sogdiana, enigmatic and mysterious lands of China to the east, the vast Kazakh steppes - the birthplace of the nomads on the north and the mountainous "roof of the world" Pamir on the south there is a small but beautiful mountainous country, lying among covered with eternal snow and ice ridges of "Celestial Mountains" of gray-haired Tien-Shan. This country now known as Kyrgyzstan.
Kyrgyzstan is the country of amazing contrasts. It is a country of mighty mountains covered with eternal snows and alpine meadows with a scattering of flowers, turbulent mountain rivers with foamy waterfalls and steppes smelling wormwood, a country of blue lakes and green valleys.
Long chain of 88 powerful grand mountain ranges of the Tien Shan from west to east form the well known "Celestial Mountains". And they justify this title. Most of them have their summits over the snow line. Among them are world-famous peaks, such as "Pobeda" peak (7439 m), the legendary pyramid of Khan-Tengri (6995 m) and many others. Not less grandiose mountain system can be found on the south of our country - the Pamirs, on the Zaalaysky ridge which forms the border with Tajikistan the highest point is Lenin Peak (7134 m).
In Kyrgyzstan there are about two thousand mountain lakes of different origin. Here you mayfind both giants lakes and dwarfs lakes. By the volume of water and its depth, the Giants can compete with some of the seas. One of these natural phenomena is the the lake Issyk-Kul lake which does not freeze in winter. In Issyk-Kul there is a unique, comfortable climate and golden beaches. Another, no less unique lake in Kyrgyzstan is the Son-Kul Lake, located at an altitude of 3013 m above sea level and is the cradle of modern nomads. The shores of Lake Son-Kul form great summer pastures to where Kyrgyz nomads sent their cattle on summer months.
Lake Sary Chelek is perhaps one of the most beautiful lakes in Kyrgyzstan. It is surrounded by mountains covered with pine and walnut forests. Clear blue expanse of the sly is reflected in it, and the slopes surrounding the lake covered with forests makes the picture idyllic and serene.
Another amazing lake of Kyrgyzstan, and perhaps the world most known is the lake Merzbacher, situated at the confluence of the Southern and Northern Inylchek glaciers. It is the phenomenon lake which is filled with glacier water for several months, and then, within two or three days, there is a sharp discharge of water. And the reason for this phenomenon is unfortunately still unknown. Actually, for this reason, the lake Merzbacher is always full of scientists from all around the world to study.
Kyrgyzstan is rich with not only natural beauty, but also with a cultural heritage. Traveling around the country, you can plunge into the history of thousands of years, live in a nomadic yurt, ride a horse along the alpine pastures - jailoo to the site of ancient nomads, try to unravel the mystery of rock paintings in the fabulous caves, get to know the heroic epic Manas - the greatest legacy of all times, feel yourself a merchant on the Silk Road, do shopping, wandering among the colorful rows of the biggest bazaars of Central Asia in the city of Osh, and climb the "Sacred Suleiman mountain."
