Samoa — Attractions

Samoa is blessed with an incredible array of natural landmarks. Tourists will have a plethora of things to see when they venture around the islands of Samoa, including stunning rainforests, volcanic caves, cascading waterfalls, and serene lakes. The Dwarves Cave is a mysterious landmark made from volcanic activity centuries ago. Today, legends still say a race of little people live within the cave. Another magnificent site is the Lake Lanoto’o National Park, with its untouched beauty.

Tafua Peninsula Rainforest Reserve

The Tafua Peninsula Rainforest Reserve is an amazing site for tourists and locals to enjoy. Located on the island of Ulopu, this stunning corner of natural rainforest is extremely popular among bird lovers, as there are plenty of bird species found throughout the reserve. Flying foxes are also easy to spot. The main highlight within the Tafua Peninsula Rainforest Reserve is the Tafua Crater, which shouldn’t be passed up by tourists. Visitors will be thoroughly disappointed in themselves if they forget binoculars or a camera when visiting Tafua Peninsula Rainforest Reserve. Address: Tafua Tai, Palauli, Savaii, Samoa Phone: +685-50-346

Dwarves Cave

This is one of Samoa’s most mysterious yet intriguing attractions. The Dwarves Cave is located nearby the village of Paia, on the island of Savaii. The cave is open between Monday and Saturday, at any time of the day, so tourists have plenty of options to see it. This old lava tube is more than a mile long, so exploring the entire cave can take several hours. Tourists are recommended to bring comfortable walking shoes, water, food, and a flashlight to help in those darker spots. Interestingly, the cave is named after a legendary clan of little people that supposedly still live inside. Apparently, their footprints can sometimes be found.

Alofaaga Blowholes

Located on the island of Savaii, the Alofaaga Blowholes is a unique attraction in the islands of Samoa. The blowholes are volcanic plug holes that have been eroded away over the years to create a rocky tube. As waves crash against the shoreline, water is expelled through the blowholes, bellowing into the air at tremendous speed and power. The blowholes are found just outside the village of Taga. Getting to the village and this attraction can done via the main roadway along the southern coastline of Samoa. Address: Taga village, South Coast Road, Cape Auisui, Savaii, Samoa Phone: n/a

Falealupo Rainforest Preserve

Samoa is a breeding ground for beautiful rainforests. The government has recognized their importance and set up a preserve in the northwestern corner of Savaii, known as the Falealupo Rainforest Preserve. The site is a magnificent bastion of luscious green trees with hordes of local wildlife. Visitors will be astounded at the beauty on display. The highlight of the preserve is certainly the treetop canopy walk, which connects several banyan trees together. Visitors can get a taste of rainforest life from 40 meters above the shrubs. Tourists will adore this serene side of Samoa. Address: Vaisigano Falealupo Road, Samoa Phone: n/a Website: n/a

Lake Lanoto’o National Park

Lake Lanoto’o National Park is a fascinating destination, filled with an amazing array of wildlife. The area is swamp land, but is tremendously rich in attractions. The local goldfish, which are not native to the lake, have become a popular attraction for the national park. Access to the national park is done best through four-wheel drive tours, and hiking. However, tourists will have to be in good condition, as the environment is beautiful but challenging. Address: Lanoto’o, Tuamasaga, Upolu, Samoa Phone: +675-326-0248

O Le Pupu-Pui National Park

The O Le Pupu-Pui National Park is one of the main attractions in Samoa. It is home to some of the country’s most important landmarks. Hikers will fall in love with the rainforest scenery of the national park, not to mention the many fantastic hiking trails located within. Samoa’s highest peak Mt. Fito (which stands at 1,100 meters) can be visited inside the park. In addition, the beautiful Togitogiga Falls is also resting within the O Le Pupu-Pui National Park. Papapapai-Tai Falls

This is one of the Pacific’s most astonishing cascades and natural landscapes. The Papapapai-Tai Falls are more than 100 meters in height, providing a breathtaking site for tourists. Visitors can find Papapapai-Tai Falls on the island of Upolu, just a short distance from the Lake Lanoto’o National Park. It is possible to go swimming nearby the waterfall, which offers a spectacular backdrop for visitors. Address: Ulopu, Samoa Phone: n/a
