BEST BEACHES OF CURACAO
Beaches are the one thing that aren’t hard to find while in Curacao. Everywhere you go on the island (coast regions of course) you will find amazingly pretty waters to swim, dive or to relax. I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen most of the beaches at the island, so today I am going to share my favorite beaches of Curacao with you.
Still Curacao is a relatively small island and when you want to see all the beaches of the island I’m sure you can squeeze it into your schedule. However – most beaches aren’t accessible without paying a small fee, so therefor I can imagine you want to know what you’re going to see before you’re going to pay the price.
KNIP BEACH
When looking at the photo above you know why you should visit this place. Knip Beach hits my personal top 10 of most-paradise-looking-beaches. And while Knip Beach is great for relaxing, snorkeling and diving it is also a place to get active.. Ever wanted to do a cliff-jump? Knip Beach is your destination!
PLAYA LAGUN
Playa Lagun isn’t very known among tourists, which makes it a very peaceful beach. That doesn’t mean anything though, it’s still definitely worth visiting. Playa Lagun is famous for her snorkeling opportunities and the chances of seeing sea turtles. I wasn’t lucky enough to spot them, unfortunately. However, even while I was not snorkeling (not even swimming) myself I already saw 20 different types of fish from the beach! That fact tells me that Playa Lagun is definitely a place you do not want to miss when you’re looking for pretty fishes and places to go snorkeling. Also, Playa Lagun has a great restaurant, just on top of the cliff, which gives you an amazing view over the sea.
CAS ABAO
At the north-west side of Curacao you’ll find Cas Abao, a great beach for families to visit but also a great place to practice different types of watersports and to go diving. Still, if your looking for a peaceful moment in paradise, you can enjoy a massage at Cas Abao as well!
PLAYA PORTO MARI
Playa Porto Mari is situated on the west-side of the island. This picture-perfect small beach is perfect for snorkeling, but as well for relaxing – as you do on a beach. However, if you’re looking for more adventure than snorkeling you can rent diving supplies at this island. Playa Porto Mari is out of the touristic areas and mostly not (too) busy.. Perfect!
While the beaches mentioned above are very tranquil, the ones named below, are pretty much the opposite. You will find most of the tourists at these beaches. Nevertheless it are amazing beaches to visit, and while you can enjoy a relaxing swim in these area’s you can also shop, eat something at the various restaurants, drink a cocktail at the beach bars and enjoy happy hours. In weekends you can go clubbing on these beaches as well, and meet other tourists (and locals) (Cabana Beach on Wednesdays)!
CABANA BEACH
Cabana Beach was one of my favorite places to hang out at night, as the ambiance was relaxing, the snacks and drinks were good and the bar was a great place to hang out. Still, during the day when you want to enjoy a beach, Cabana Beach is a great option as well.. just be sure you’re prepared for loads of tourists.
MAMBO BEACH
Next to the fact that Mambo Beach is a fantastic beach location, it is also the home of a luxurious pool. So not a fan of deep waters (like me)? Mambo Beach is a place for you. Also, Mambo Beach organizes a lot of salsa / cuban events, so if you want to get a taste of Caribbean / Middle America culture you should definitely take a look here and check out their calendar!
JAN THIEL BEACH
Even though Jan Thiel is amazingly touristic, this beach is worth checking out. The water itself is very clear, which makes it a great place to go for a swim. At night Jan Thiel Beach changes into a romantic scenery where you can enjoy dinner on the beach, surrounded by palmtrees and decorative lights. If you want to experience the romance on Jan Thiel Beach I advise you to go somewhere from Monday till Friday, as the beach changes in a party scene during weekends.
