Top 5 Best Beaches in Grenada

When you think of traveling to the Caribbean, more likely than not, images of pristine beaches will fill your mind. Some of the most beautiful beaches on Earth can be found in this part of the world, and the little Island of Spice (Grenada’s nickname) offers a plethora of gorgeous stretches for you to while away a few hours, or days.

There are many things to see and do in Grenada, and enjoying the beaches definitely ranks as a must-do! After living and traveling around this island for a year, we've seen many of the beaches available and consider ourselves experts on the matter. Here are our choices for the top five beaches in Grenada.

Grand Anse Beach

This is the most popular beach on the island, and for good reason. Grand Anse is a two-and-a-half-mile stretch of soft, white sand. Lining the beach are a few bars and restaurants, plus a couple of resorts, none of which are tall, cement monstrosities. You'll find numerous almond trees on the beach, which act as a perfect natural umbrella when you want (need) to seek out some shade. The Caribbean Sea is exactly the clear blue color you imagine it would be, and come sunset, the sky turns to a golden orange hue. This beach is perfection.

Morne Rouge Beach (BBC Beach)

Often overlooked due to its proximity to the more popular Grand Anse beach, Morne Rouge, or BBC Beach as the locals call it, is a stunning cove with white sand and glass-calm waters. There is just one hotel here, a new little beach bar and two other small bars serving basic food. For a more upscale meal, you can eat at the Sangria Restaurant. This beach is a great spot for relaxing, swimming and sunbathing.

La Sagesse

This beach is located just outside of the main tourist area of Grand Anse, which is what gives it its charm. Palm trees line the golden sand here and there's nothing more than one hotel with an open-air restaurant. The cove is a bit more wavy than the beaches further to the south, which is part of the reason why we recommend it. If you have a boogie board, definitely bring it here, or, you could rent a kayak for $5 an hour to explore the cove. Another great thing about La Sagesse is that you can walk to the next bay as well.

Lavera Beach

Located at the very northern reaches of the island is Lavera Beach. This is a special spot because leatherback turtles use the sand here as a nesting ground. This beach is virtually deserted, but it's a great spot to go for a picnic and it has excellent views out to Sugar Loaf Island, Sandy Island and Green Island. This beach is part of Lavera National Park as well, which is an excellent spot for bird watching and walking.

Magazine Beach

This long stretch of sand is located along the southwestern coast of the island. At about a mile long, and often quiet, you'll definitely be able to find an empty spot to lay your towel. The snorkeling here is very good and there's a popular restaurant called the Aquarium, which is available to the public, so you'll never be hungry. There are many more beaches in Grenada, beyond these top five. This island's shoreline is jagged, offering numerous bays and coves for swimming, tanning, picnicking or just chilling out ... many of which are deserted.
