Gordana Radovanovic
I m Gordana Radovanovic, certified tour guide for Trebinje city and its environement. I m born in Trebinje and lived in Trebinje the most of my life but, studing french and italian, had also chance to get to know well Sarajevo, and also Dubrovnik, working there as tour guide for Atlas Travel Agency in 1990. This is actually how and why I started to like this work. Later on, during and after the conflict in Bosnia and Hercegovina I worked 9 years for International Committee of the Red Cross assisting war victims and 8 years more in rural development projects for Spanish NGO MPDL. Presently I m working as teacher in the school and, with help of Slow Food, promoting Hercegovina tipical local products such as vine, cheese in the sack and other kinds of tipical Trebinje cheese, poljak bean, honey. Beside my family, I m also in love with Hercegovina and its people. I ll describe you Hercegovina by quoting Andrea Semplici, italian journalist whom I had opportunity to meet and who wrote great guide about Hercegovina JOURNEY THROUGH HERZEGOVINA - STORIES OF FOOD AND FARMERS : "Just give it up and relax: those seeking Herzegovina's food must be able to lose their way; whoever wants to enjoy tastiest cheese in the world, the sweetest cherries, the best cevapi, the strongest rakija, should have the wisdom of those who are not afraid to get lost. The geography of food in Herzegovina is traced by a criss-cross of country roads, almost mule tracks, squeezed between stone walls, paths leading to secluded homes with thick walls and small windows, to kitchens where bread is baked under iron bells covered with ashes and embers, to fields where the beauty of pomegranates blooms along the borders, and to orchards where unique green cabbages grow in every season. You will find these paths only if you have patience and enthusiasm. Only if you understand that time here does not run 'slow or fast' : this land does not love those in a hurry."
I ll be very happy to share my love for Hercegovina with you!
Tour guide services/sample itinerary:
1. Historical center visit: visit of the Trebinje old town (18th century), Platani terrace, market place, Arslanagic bridge (XVIth century), Hercegovacka Gracanica temple
2. Wine tasting tour: there are around 25 registerd wine cellars in Trebinje area. Local vines are vraanc and zilavka. Some of the local producers became very famous and are inevitable places to visit on Hercegovina wine road map. I invite you to taste excellent wines of famous (Vukoje, Tvrdos monastery, Andjelic, Berak, Runjevac, Sekulovic, Petijevic) and also less famous Trebinje wine producers making small quantities but in old traditional techniques and using some old, almost lost varieties, such as kadarun and surac.
3. „Slow villages“ visit: Villages around Trebinje are still very alive. I call them „slow“ because families living there are producing good, „slow food“. I invite you to visit them and enjoy eating local traditional food: poljak bean, dish called „prijesnac“ made of local cheese „skripavac“, cheese in oil, skripavac cheese, cheese in sack, Hercegovina prosciutto, and of course to toast with local wine!
