ABOUT SRI LANKA
The terms Pearl of the Indian Ocean, the Granary of the East, Paradise, Serendib, and Taprobane have all been used to describe the small, beautiful island. However, no name fully captures the essence of the island, a land of beauty, variety, and opportunity.
The teardrop island has miles and miles of beaches, and many hills and valleys. The land changes quickly in front of your eyes, from beach to dry land to hills with cool temperatures.
Sri Lanka is famous for its hospitality, but also for its ancient architecture, religious sites, beautiful flora and fauna, and its tea. The tea culture of the country is one of its most important aspects, and is a predominant thread underlying all its interactions.
The historical heritage of Sri Lanka is varied and wondrous. Spaces, both religious and otherwise, such as Temple of the Tooth, Ambekke, Gadaladeniya, and Lankathilleke dot the Sri Lankan map, providing a visitor with a million places to go to and to see. They speak of an architectural heritage that rivals the best in the region. The cultural triangle, situated in the central regions of the country, Jaffna, the northernmost point in Sri Lanka, and Galle, the Southern point, are some of the most visited places by both local and international tourists, but is only the tip of the iceberg in what Sri Lanka has to offer.
