Soroca - between turks and tatars.
Опис
Historically Moldova lies at the crossroads of major trading routs and today’s visitors can discover many old fortifications dating back to ancient times.
Soroca Fortress built in the Middle Ages at the Nistru river bend was part of a huge Moldovan defensive system. Initially wooden, the fortress was built of stone between 1543-1546 according to the “Golden section” supreme law of harmony that made it unique among the examples of European military architecture. It has a perfect round shape with a diameter of 37,5 m and with 5 equidistant bastions.
There are some other interesting sights to see in Soroca town and near-by:
“The Candle of Gratitude” monument of 35 m height was erected on the cliff over the Nistru river. This monument is a tribute of great respect to unknown heroes having kept through the ages the history, culture and language of the People of Moldova.
And you will also reach the incredible Gypsies Hill – another reality of our days. This is a region of Soroca town inhabited exclusively by Gypsies people. No, this is not about the famous Gypsies camps, this is about the overwhelming Gypsies style chateaux built recently.
