Ruins discovered in Ecuador could be the home of the last Inca emperor or the lost city of the giants
Explorers say they have found inca ruins in the dense deep in the Amazon jungle.
The multinational team found the ruins in a remote region in the center of Ecuador, of which they have already unearthed a structure 80 meters long by 80 meters wide, built with hundreds of boulders 200 tons. The investigations are at an early stage, and theories about the site vary, reported the British newspaper The Telegraph
Some believe it could be the mausoleum of Atahualpa, or keeping Llanganates treasure. Others believe that the newly discovered site belong to more ancient pre-Inca cultures, due to the rudimentary nature of the artifacts found.
According to legends of the town, the area was once populated by a civilization exceptionally tall people, so it follows the apparent size of about 30 giant artifacts found there.
The site, located in the Llanganates National Park, is being investigated by a team of British, French, American and Ecuadorian explorers. Including Bruce Fenton, a British researcher who operates from Ecuador and Benoit Duverneuil, a Franco-American archaeologist.
The Ecuadorian government has been informed about the discovery and is expected to issue an official formed by archaeologists and paleontologists do. [...] The site is only 20 miles from Baños de Agua Santa, but because of the difficult access the trip takes eight hours.
The large structure is a wall with an inclination of 60 degrees with a flat top, where the artifacts were found.
Duverneuil believes that could be the mausoleum of Atahualpa. Many of the stones are aligned perfectly and seem to have been spat at hand. But there is also the possibility that it is a very peculiar natural rock formation said Fenton Duverneuil suspect could be remnants of a civilization that lived long before the known pre-Incan cultures.
Unlike Peru, where the Inca ruins receive much attention (like Machu Pichu), Ecuador archaeological sites attract a limited number of tourists.
