10 Reasons to Visit José Ignacio for New Years
1. Clubhouse José Ignacio
Clubhouse José Ignacio launched in December 2013 in the world’s chicest fishing village. With a privileged beachfront location 3km from the center of town, 2 pools, outdoor tiki bar, and an unlimited supply of sunshine, this is the ideal place to spend those long Uruguayan summer days.
2. Clubhouse José Ignacio Perks
We weren’t lying when we said we create magical memories one perk at a time. All Members and Guests will have VIP access to the all the best events in town. From international DJ’s being flown in specially for your entertainment to fashion parties hosted at the Clubhouse José Ignacio, we guarantee an unforgettable New Years.
3. Car Watching
When the socialites are in town, don’t bother trying to park anywhere near Brava Beach in José Ignacio for New Years. The dirt roads are narrow, the Porsches wide, and there are too many drivers anxiously vying for a spot. Instead, take pleasure in gazing at all those beautiful, shiny cars on offer – how very St Tropez!
4. Leisurely Lunches and Late Dinners
The earliest acceptable dinner reservation is at 11 P.M. Book a table at seaside Los Negros in José Ignacio for New Years, and order the brotola, a local codlike fish, and a bottle or two of Viognier Juanico, a rich, dry local white. One of Los Negros’s greater charms—its ability to dissolve time. Reservations highly recommended.
5. Fresh Seafood and Clericó
Make sure you book an afternoon table at La Huella, a popular beach shack and sample their fried calamari. Sit back with a clericó in hand, a local white wine sangria (or caipirinhas at night), and enjoy the beautiful sea views before the madness of New Year’s Eve begins!
6. “Punta,” José Ignacio’s Splashier Sibling only 20 Miles Away
Perfect for those who like a more relaxed, boho vibe, José Ignacio for New Years has managed to lure in the trendiest of jet-setters whilst still maintaining its old style. But for those of you that want to experience something a little ‘splashier’ Punta del Este is just a short drive away – there you will find gleaming condos, expensive stores, loud clubs and an abundance of celebrities.
7. 360° Panoramic Views
Go to José Ignacio’s famed lighthouse and indulge in some beautiful 360° panoramic views – the views are incredible and it’s always surprising how much you miss when walking round by foot!
8. Buzzing Restaurants
Marismo, known for its slow-braised lamb, is strictly alfresco, with candlelit tables set around a bonfire on the sand. Namm, just down the road from Marismo, is an Asian fusion spot equally as popular. Only open in the evenings, expect candlelit tables with low seating set in the sand. Killer cocktails and sushi round out the experience. Check out our José Ignacio city guide for more recommendations.
9. Head to the Beach
Beach hopping is a must. Head up to La Barra, Punta’s trendiest neighborhood, in the morning and catch some rays on theses popular stretches of sand, all of which are dotted with toned, tanned bodies. Then in the afternoon, at around four o’clock, follow the locals to José Ignacio Beach, where DJs set up tiki torches for “chill-out” sessions in the sand.
10 Watch the Sunset over José Ignacio Beach
Grab a cold Quilmes (the favored Argentine beer), find a quieter spot on the shore (far from the DJs), and enjoy Uruguay’s most popular spectator sport.
