Description
An afternoon to enjoy the excellence of the Apulian production of EVO (extra virgin olive oil) and wine (its majesty the Primtivo di Manduria).
The guided visit will be in Manduria where we will start with a visit to an olive oil producer to discover all the secrets of the healthy symbol of the Mediterranean diet (history, different cultivars, milling techniques, organoleptic characteristics, nutritional facts, etc.). At the end of the visit and thanks to the evo tasting you will learn some how to recognize a good quality evo from a bad one, its use in the cuisine and some traditional recipes.
Manduria is synonymous of wine, in particular its world famous DOC “Primitivo di Manduria” (it’s in the heart of the “triangle of Primitivo”). The tour finish with a wine tasting (Primitivo, Negramaro, Salice Salentino, Rosato del Salento, etc.) at the winery.
Some idea for changes to the itinerary
It’s also possible to extend / modify the tour with a lunch / dinner in a typical restaurant, a cooking lesson, a cheese or some other typical food tasting, a visit to the historic city center of Manduria and/or to the Messapian (a pre-Roman population) archaeological site. The tour can be focused on olive oil or on wine with the visit of some century old olive groves, an ancient underground olive oil mill, a small and family run winery, a 90 years old Primitivo di Manduria vineyard with the alberello (Goblet or bush trained) vines, etc.
